Math 251 Homework Assignment 03, Optional Maple Component

- Due 5:30 PM Monday, October 4th, 1999.

This is an optional Maple assignment. If you do it, you could get a bonus of 2% added to your final mark. This 2% can be used only to top up your overall assignment marks, assuming your assignment marks aren't perfect.

In order to do this assignment it is suggested you first work through the example worksheets on quadric surfaces and spacecurves, which were posted with the lecture notes for Wednesday September 22nd, and Friday September 24th:

After you have checked-out these worksheets, here are a few exercises for you to do in your own worksheet, which should then be printed and handed-in:

  1. Plot a hyperboloid of 1 sheet whose axis is the x-axis.
  2. Plot a hyperboloid of 2 sheets whose axis is the y-axis.
  3. Plot an elliptic paraboloid whose axis is the y-axis.
  4. Plot a hyperbolic paraboloid whose axis is the x-axis.
  5. Plot a parabolic cylinder whose axis is the x-axis.
  6. Plot 3 mutually perpendicular intersecting circles as tube plots on the same graph.
  7. Make a double-helix whose axis is the y-axis. Use tube plots.
  8. Make a helix whose radius along the axis is modulated by some function you choose.
  9. Make a toroidal spiral of 8 loops, whose toroidal axis is the x-axis.
