Math 251 Lecture 08: Friday, September 24th 1999.

The subject of today's lecture was Vector Functions, Space Curves, and Tube Plots.

Vector functions were defined, and the concepts of limits and continuity were extended. Space curves were defined, and various examples were plotted in Maple, both as space curves and tube plots. These included intersecting circles, a spiral helix, a toroidal spiral, and a trefoil knot.

The concept of a derivative was extended to vector functions. This was used to find a unit tangent vector to a space curve. The concept of integration was also extended to vector functions. Various extensions of the product rule and the chain rule were also listed.
