Math 314 Lecture 02: Friday, September 10th 1999.
We reviewed the method for solving non-homogeneous ODE's, which
hinges upon solving the corresponding homogeneous ODE and then finding
a particular solution of the non-homogeneous ODE. Methods for finding
a particular solution were discussed. These included the methods of
undetermined coefficients and variation of parameters.
A couple of Maple examples were given,
showing how to use the "dsolve" command.
Finally, a couple of Boundary value problems were discussed, namely those of
the hanging cable and the buckling column.
