Math 314 Lecture 19: Friday, October 22nd 1999.
Today, we solved the Transient Convection Problem. The eigenvalues turned
out to be solutions of an equation which must be solved numerically. They are not
evenly spaced, and this is not a Fourier Series. However, the eigenfunctions can
be shown to be orthogonal, and thus the solution is a generalized Fourier series,
whose coefficients can be found from the orthogonality conditions. An example was
numerically solved and plotted in Maple.
