Because of the presence of instrument noise in turbulent diffusion data, it is extremely difficult to obtain models for the probability density function (pdf) of the concentration of scalar contaminant which are accurate for the low concentration regimes. Assuming the functional form of the noise pdf is known, it is possible to recover the uncorrupted signal. The wind-tunnel data of Sawford et al will be used as an illustration of the proposed technique.
