For Students and Postdoctoral Fellows
In this space, I have assembled information that should be of
interest to students and postdoctoral fellows that are either already
studying under my supervision or who are interested in doing research
with me.
- How to get a good
reference letter:
Obtaining strong letters of reference is an essential part of any
successful application for a job, scholarship or graduate school
position. But this is something most students don't think about
or plan for until it's too late. This page has tips on how to
ensure you maximize your chances of getting a good reference
letter (from me).
- Research and funding opportunities: This
is where I post specific information about funding available for
undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. If
you have an interest in working with me, then please contact me.
- Tips for new students and postdocs: If
you have recently arrived at SFU or are planning to study here,
then this page provides lots of essential information to plan your
visit and make your transition to life at SFU as smooth as
possible.
- NSERC scholarship applications:
Slide from a workshop I give regularly to math students on how to
prepare an application to NSERC
for a Master's (CGS-M) or doctoral (PGS/CGS-D) scholarship.
- SFU's
SIAM Student Chapter: an active student organization that runs
local activities and gives students an opportunity to get involved
in the world's largest professional society for applied
mathematics.
- Reading list: A list of my favourite
books on math-related topics. Feel free to come borrow these from
me if you're interested.
- PhD comics
(by Jorge Cham): Provides a light-hearted view of research and
graduate student life that is worth a good laugh every once in a
while.
